As a new employee, you will be offered a Pension check-up by your employer. This is a personal consultation with a pension expert in which you look at your financial future together.

The purpose? To give you insight into your pension, the choices you can make now and in the future, and help you make these choices with more confidence.

What can you expect from the Start Pension check-up?

The Start Pension check-up takes an average of 45 to 60 minutes. In this consultation, you and the pension expert will look at:

Your current situation

  • The pension scheme at your organisation.
  • Your current pension accrual and how this will affect your income later.
  • The choices you can make now to make your pension fit your wishes better.
  • Whether your current pension accrual is in line with what you think you will need later on — and what you may be able to do about this now.

Wishes and objectives

  • Your personal online environment mijn.nn Inkomen Later: you see where you can find your data and how you can view your situation and how you can pass on your choices.
  • How to add your pension data for a comprehensive financial picture, for example via MijnPensioenOverzicht.nl or the Finch app, with which you can view all your financial data safely in one place.

Making choices

  • How pensions and investments work. What best suits your preferences and how can you make changes?
  • Any additional pension insurance for your partner.
  • Transfer of accrued benefits from previously accrued pension Multiple jobs means multiple pension pots. It may be helpful to include everything in your new pension scheme, so you have everything in one place.
  • The possibility of making additional contributions to your pension.

How should you prepare?

It is useful to prepare in advance to make the consultation easier:

    Think about your wishes for later. What do you expect in terms of income? Do you have an idea of what you think you need?

    Collect data from previous pension schemes if you have them via, for example, mijnpensioenoverzicht.nl (log on with Digid).

    If you have a partner, you can take them to the consultation. It would be helpful if your partner's pension details are also available for a total picture.

  • The consultation is held with a pension expert.

  • You can easily make, change or manage an appointment via mijn.nn Inkomen Later (under ‘My actions’).
  • The consultation can be in Dutch or English, depending on your preference.
  • The consultation does not include financial advice, but it will give you insight and help you to make choices.

Good to know

  • You do not need to prepare for the Pension MOT consultation. It is advisable to already determine your risk profile in your personal online environment, my.nn Inkomen Later.
  • We will ask you to complete a short evaluation by email after the consultation is completed. This is anonymous and will help us to improve our service. We appreciate your cooperation in completing it.

How does an online consultation work?

  1. Make an appointment for a Pension check-up
  2. Depending on the pension expert, you will either receive an invitation in your confirmation email with a personal link to the meeting or in a separate email no later than one day before the appointment. The Pension check-up can take place via Teams or other video software, depending on the adviser’s preference.
  3. At the time of the appointment, click the link (or copy it into a recommended browser).
  4. Start your Pension check-up.

    Tip! Test the link as soon as you receive it by clicking it. This will ensure that everything is working and ready for your appointment.
System requirements
  • A laptop, desktop or tablet with working webcam, sound and microphone (a webcam is convenient, but is not necessary).
