NN Group steunt ‘Dit is Cas, Vintage fotografie van Cas Oorthuys’, in Nederlands Fotomuseum

Maak dit najaar kennis met fotograaf Cas Oorthuys: fotograaf, optimist, wereldreiziger en familieman, met een oeuvre dat zich kan meten aan dat van de grote internationale namen uit de fotografiewereld. De overzichtstentoonstelling ‘Dit is Cas | Vintage fotografie van Cas Oorthuys’ is vorige week vrijdag in het Nederlands Fotomuseum in Rotterdam geopend. NN Group is partner van deze tentoonstelling die tot 13 januari 2019 te bezoeken is.

Cas Oorthuys (1908-1975) heeft altijd veel gefotografeerd. Hij ging niet  zonder toestel de deur uit, en had vaak zelfs meerdere camera’s om zijn nek. Met gevaar voor eigen leven is hij tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog in het geheim blijven fotograferen. Zijn portret van een vrouw met een stukje brood groeit uit tot het icoon van de hongerwinter. Na de oorlog richtte hij zijn camera op de wederopbouw, waarin hij als geen ander de sfeer van optimisme en hard werken wist te vangen.

In de naoorlogse periode heeft Cas Oorthuys ook veel gereisd. Zijn foto’s betekenden in die tijd voor veel Nederlanders een eerste kennismaking met steden over de grens. Uiteindelijk heeft hij een archief van bijna een half miljoen foto’s achtergelaten. Zoals landschapsschilders uit de zeventiende eeuw eeuwenlang het beeld van Nederland bepaalden, heeft Cas Oorthuys dat met zijn fotografie gedaan, met veel beelden van wind en water, imposante wolkenluchten en een open, opgeruimd landschap.

Als corporate partner van de collectie van het Nederlands Fotomuseum wil NN Group bijdragen aan het toegankelijker maken van fotografie voor een breed publiek.
